Beauty İstanbul is a sourcing fair, and that changes what a stand has to do. Of the exhibitors at the recent edition, 1,374 came from 61 countries with 25 national pavilions, and 655 hosted buyers from 123 countries arrived with appointment schedules. Your stand is not a shop window — it is a meeting venue with a product display attached. The question is how many conversations it can hold at once.

Nearly half the visitors come from outside Turkey. That has a direct design consequence: signage, product labels and the price file need English, and depending on your target market a second language — Arabic or Russian are the usual choices for this fair.
Meeting capacity, not square metres
With 12,000 scheduled meetings across three days, the binding constraint on a stand here is how many simultaneous conversations it supports:

Work from your appointment count backwards. A company with two sales staff and twenty booked meetings needs two tables, not a larger display. Ways to gain capacity without more floor: set tables perpendicular to the product wall rather than parallel, use the back of a tall display panel as the screen for a second table, and recess the sample cupboard under the table.
Private label conversations need a closed corner
Much of the business here is contract manufacturing and private label. Those meetings cover formulation, packaging cost and minimum order quantity — not a conversation to hold in an aisle where the neighbouring stand can hear it. From 20 m² we recommend a semi-enclosed corner; from 30 m² an enclosed room.
Inside that corner go the packaging samples, formulation references and the price file. The open frontage carries the brand and the finished product. Empty packaging samples are often more useful in these meetings than filled product, so allow shelf space for them.
Lighting and testers
- Colour rendering. A lipstick or foundation under low-CRI light reads as a different shade, and the buyer finds out when the sample reaches their own store. Use high colour rendering, neutral white spots.
- Shelf shadow. Top-down lighting on a multi-shelf unit leaves lower shelves dark and the pack front unreadable. Under-shelf strip lighting is the smallest item that makes the biggest visible difference.
- Mirror lighting. A testing mirror needs symmetrical light from both sides. One-sided light leaves half the face in shadow and the shade is judged wrongly.
- Water. If you are demonstrating skincare, hair or makeup removal you need a basin. Water supply and drainage are ordered separately from the organiser and must be in the stand plan before design is finalised — the drain position dictates the counter location.
- Hygiene. Single-use applicators, wipes and a concealed waste bin belong inside the counter. In view, they make the stand look unclean.
Approval, customs and cosmetics
If you have booked raw space you must name your stand constructor and have the design approved before building. Deadlines vary by fair; at Automechanika Istanbul the terms require submission two months ahead and state that unapproved designs cannot be constructed. On customs: display units you take home again normally move under an ATA carnet. Tester product, giveaway samples and anything consumed at the stand are not covered and need a full export declaration. Cosmetics can also carry product-specific import documentation requirements depending on category and ingredients — confirm this with your freight forwarder in writing before shipping rather than assuming.
Prices
Stand construction in Turkey is quoted in the 400 – 750 EUR per m² band. Where you sit in it depends on the system, the finish and how much bespoke joinery the stand needs: a modular build sits at the lower end, a custom wooden stand with built-in furniture at the upper. Island stands add 10–20%; double-decker structures add 40–60%, including the structural report and the longer installation.

How big a stand do I need?
Work from your appointment count. Two simultaneous meetings fit in 16–20 m²; three need 25–30 m². If you are only displaying product and talking standing up, 9–12 m² is enough. A larger stand with one table does less business than a smaller stand with two.
Can I have a basin on my stand?
Yes. Water supply and drainage are ordered separately from the organiser and have their own deadline. Order before the design is finalised — the drain position determines where the counter can go, and therefore the whole layout.
Can I bring tester products into Turkey?
Testers and giveaway samples are consumed, so they fall outside an ATA carnet and need a full export declaration. Cosmetics may also carry category-specific import documentation requirements. Get written confirmation from your freight forwarder before shipping.
My product colour looks wrong on the stand. Why?
Almost always the lighting. Low colour-rendering lamps shift shades; top-down-only lighting leaves lower shelves dark. We use high-CRI neutral white spots with under-shelf strips, and symmetrical light either side of any testing mirror.
